Time is passing by and we never know what tomorrow
will bring.
What have you always wanted to do, but haven't
taken the steps necessary to do it?
I shared my big dream with my coach - to be a motivational
speaker for large groups!
"Try Toastmasters to improve your speaking
skills", she said. I agreed to investigate. Gathering my courage,
I visited several clubs, joined a vibrant one, Art's District Toastmasters,
and a month later was scheduled to give my first speech. Driving
on the expressway headed for the meeting, I was thinking: what have
I gotten myself into? Anxious, nervous, and ready to turn around
for home, I wondered why am I pushing myself out of my comfort zone.
Ask me to make homemade rolls, easy; but make a speech, fearful!!!!!
The fear of public speaking is rated only second to the fear of
snakes and before the fear of dying.
I did it! Recently, I completed the 7th speech
for my Toastmasters Club, and received the "Best Speaker Award".
I continue to be nervous and uncomfortable prior to a speech, but
the feeling of accomplishment afterwards is exhilarating. Making
several talks for small groups and reading the liturgy at church,
is getting me out in front of groups slowly but surely and improving
my speaking skills. My dream is still a long way away, but the benefits
I have received on my journey have been significant.
What action steps can you take to get where you
want to be or to reach your dream?
-
Do it now. "The bird is on the wing"!
-
Feel the fear and do it anyway.
-
Call me and together we will clarify YOUR dream.
