Adjusting
The September “wind”, for me was wild
and furious, requiring much adjusting of my “sails”
in four major events involving members of my immediate circle.
New Orleans, my hometown, was destroyed in Hurricane
Katrina and then flooded a second time in Hurricane Rita. The evacuees
are devastated, and are dealing with great losses of life, possessions,
memories, community and roots. They are re-evaluating life as they
have known it: new homes, new jobs, new schools, new churches, and
new friends. Their adjustments are beyond imagination, requiring
strength and fortitude. For some, insights and epiphanies are coming
from this tragedy.
Mid-month, I had the joyful privilege of being
present at the birth of my granddaughter. Her Mother, Father and
Big Brother had made many preparations for her arrival and happily
welcomed her. The family is now adjusting to the baby’s needs
and to the dynamics of creating a family of four.
A friend got a sudden diagnosis: cancer. Adjustments
in her life are around doctors, treatments, fatigue and a new persona.
The family routine has drastically changed, yet includes lots of
support and love.
The serious illness of a family member involved
intense medical care, lengthy IV drips complicated by side effects
of the medicine. He adjusted to being tethered to an IV pole, to
sleepless nights, and to having a caretaker.
A single event in life can awaken in you the new
knowledge of what is intrinsically important to you. Take this knowledge
and partner with me, your life coach. Together, we can adjust your
sails to the wind, create momentum, and sail smoothly into the life
you really, really want.
Think about how you adjust to life’s situations.
-
Is your attitude positive?
-
Are you just where you want to be?
-
If not, what are you going to do about it?
