The Babbling Brook
Imagine yourself sitting beside a lovely, babbling brook as it
flows smoothly downstream rolling over the stones in its bed. What
is on your mind and in your heart as you sit there?
Recently, I had an opportunity to spend quiet time alone beside such
a brook. I noticed the path it was taking through the mountains and
beside the trees. I felt at peace listening to its gentle song and
watching the water flow over the rocky bottom. This brook made me
think of life. The rocks and stones on the bottom of the brook create
the rhythm of the song it sings. People experience hard places, and
have a choice: to create a song or to well up in sorrow.
Christopher Reeve, a.k.a. Superman, was paralyzed in May, 1995
when he was thrown from his horse in an equestrian competition.
He suffered greatly, especially the loss of being active with his
family. Yet today he continues to give gifts to the world, even
after his death in October, 2004. He wrote a book, starred in a
movie, was a renowned inspirational speaker, and started the Christopher
and Dana Reeve Paralysis Resource Center after his accident. True,
Christopher Reeve had acclaim that opened doors, yet he experienced
great suffering. Oftentimes there are stepping stones to cross a
brook, and in life we can use our experiences as stepping stones
that take us to the brighter side of life.
If you are going through a season of sorrow, there is an inner
voice speaking to you. What it is saying is a blessing and a request
to move forward. You can do it or not, your choice. You can create
a partnership with me as your coach because I want to walk on this
path with you. I can not take away your pain; that would be robbing
you of your gift. I can listen and be there for you and accompany
you on a new path.
Looking back as I left, the babbling brook was rolling over the
rocks and singing softly. When you look back on your season of sorrow,
you will see the gift.
- Where are the hard places in your life?
- What can you do today to begin creating your song?
Call me and we will walk the path together.
