Vitality
Think about how you are living each day: your energy, purpose, and forward motion; your community, family and spiritual connections. Each day adds up to a lifetime!
According to Webster, “Vitality is the quality that distinguishes the living from the nonliving; it is mental and physical vigor”. You see people with vitality daily: my friend riding her bike on a trail that follows the entire Mississippi River (1905 miles in 40 days); a grandmother playing tennis daily; dedicated country and western dancers. In order to be a more accomplished sailor, I recently took the second in a series of sailing courses and became a licensed captain of a cruising sailboat. It is not about just living without disease or infirmity, but living life to the fullest: complete and balanced - physically, mentally, spiritually and socially.
Dan Buettner, explorer, has studied human longevity for ten years. He travels the world looking for the components in people who live long healthy lives. See the article titled Forever Young in the Experience Life Magazine, July, 2006.
He pinpointed four “Blue Zones” in the world where vitality reigns. His project includes a no-charge assessment of your daily lifestyle: “Blue Zones Compass”. Take the assessment if you like. It will map out your vitality and life expectancy by evaluating the essence of your life.
Take good care of your whole self: renew your passions and look for the joyful things all around you.
Be still.
Be present.
Listen.
-
Will you reach for your vitality quotient?
-
What small step can you make today?
-
How do you live your days?
-
Is this day the first day of the rest of your life?
