Your Path

In childhood, one is expected  to live up to the ideals of a parent and other relatives. Their influences, emotions and frustrations can evolve into our own path for life. Some begin even when a Mother is expecting her baby. Often, unlived parental dreams are passed on to a child to accomplish. My curiosity and my personal foundation work led me to a method written by Barbara Shur. I created a list of my relatives; added a column for their gifts to me, and one for their sorrows, pains and unlived lives: making special note of the ones I had chosen to accept or to reject.

Here before me was a vision of my path in life and an understanding of the environment that created it. Using this method led me to clarity, acceptance and a knowing about who I am and why. Now it is up to me to live a purposeful, fulfilled and vital life so my example will be one to follow and my environment positive.

Plan a quiet day in your favorite place and create your list. It is important to note your choices and how they have influenced your path.

Coaching Questions

  • On your path, have you been affected by an unlived life of a parent?

  • What gifts from your relatives have you accepted? What sorrows?

  • If your life were fully lived, what would it look like?

  • Are there actions you need to take?

Warm Regards,
